HEALTH SERVICES CLERK (2 positions)

PURPOSE OF CLASSIFICATION: The purpose of this classification is to provide clerical and administrative support to an assigned health services locale within the Public Health Department of Knox County. Duties include, but are not limited to: compiling, verifying, and filing office records; compiling statistics; answering the telephone; greeting and assisting clients and office visitors; maintaining files; performing other various general office/clerical duties; and performing additional tasks, as assigned.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned. Greets office visitors, ascertaining needs of client in relation to agency services provided. Receives and receipts payments for services rendered; prepares daily cash ledger. Answers telephone, provides information, and refers callers to other health care agencies or providers when necessary; takes message for co-workers and transfers calls when required. Takes requests for all services as provided by the agency. Monitors office supply and printing needs and orders as necessary. Prepares outgoing mail for mailing. Compiles cumulative total of statistics for monthly reporting as required. Substitutes for co-workers in temporary absence of same. Type’s letters, forms, and all other related materials as required.
ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Responds to and reports immediately if called upon by local, regional or central office supervisors, as part of a coordinated emergency response by the Department of Health.
Performs other related duties as required.
MINIMUM TRAINING AND QUALIFICATIONS: High School Diploma required with a minimum of one to two years of office/clerical experience, or related field; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience, which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position. Must be knowledgeable and proficient with computers. Ability to speak and write in Spanish and English preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be physically able to operate a variety of office machines and equipment. Must be able to use body members to work, move or carry objects or materials. Physical demand requirements are at levels of those for sedentary.
SALARY: $22,271.81 annually
