Conexión Americas Wins National Award
Conexión Americas is one of four organizations throughout the United States which received national honors for developing creative and cost-effective approaches to help families of modest means attain their dream of homeownership. NeighborWorks® America recognized Conexión Americas as the Best Innovative Partnership with Other non-profit and for-profit organizations for their Puertas Abiertas /Open Doors Homeownership Program.
Ms. Renata Soto, who is one of the founders of Conexión Americas in Nashville, and also serves in the Board of the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of East Tennessee informed us that “through this program more than 70 families have been able to buy a home”. She also added that their achievement was “only possible thanks to the guidance, investment and management support from the NASHVILLE HOUSING FUND, the direct investment from SUNTRUST BANK and THE STEVE TURNER FAMILY FOUNDATION, the financing offered to our homebuyers by CAPITAL BANK AND TRUST and SOUTHEAST FINANCIAL CREDIT UNION, and the down payment assistance extended to our homebuyers by FEDERAL HOME LOAN BANK CINCINNATI”.
Some excerpts of the press release emphasize, “Puertas Abiertas/Open Door program showcases how partnerships successfully adapt to changing market conditions and exercise their collective ability to help Latino families realize their aspirations to become homeowners”. It also highlights the fact that “in two years, the program created 70 new homeowners and $8 million in loans”.
Our heart felt congratulation goes to the hard working staff of Conexión Americas for this great achievement, and want to inform the public that Mr. José González, Executive Director of Conexión Americas will be conducting the first of our Hispanic Chamber’s “How to Start a Business” workshops scheduled for November 12, 2005 in Knoxville.
