Tennessee Business Matchmaking Program
Here is an excellent opportunity for Hispanic Chamber members who are small business owners.
The Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development would like to invite our Chamber membership to participate in the first East Tennessee Business Matchmaking event on April 20, 2006, at the Centre at Millennium Park in Johnson City.
Co-sponsored by the Tennessee Valley Authority, Small Business Administration, Tennessee Small Business Development Center and East Tennessee State University, this event is the first of a series of business matchmaking conferences being organized throughout the state. During this one-day event, small, minority and women-owned businesses, or "sellers", will be matched with federal, state and local government agencies and large corporations that have contract opportunities. This event is specifically targeted for existing small, minority and women-owned businesses, including small manufacturers that have the capability to do business with the government and larger corporations. The goal of this event is to create jobs and economic growth for East Tennessee's small and diversity businesses.
In order for small, minority and women-owned businesses to participate, they must register between March 1-30. Companies must have the following documentation to prepare for the event:
• Register their company in the Central Contractors' Registry (CCR). In order to register in the CCR, the company must first have a Dun & Bradstreet Number (DUNS).
• Identify their products or services by the United Nations Product and Services Code. There is a nominal fee of $35 for each "seller".
Only one representative from a business can attend the event. We encourage our members who have small businesses to register early during the registration period since only the first 300 registrations will be accepted.
Assistance is available to help sellers prepare for the event. If you are interested in receiving a "seller" or small business informational packet, please contact Luis Velázquez at (865) 246-2628 or by e-mail at Luis@hccet.org. More information about the event can be found online at www.tnecd.gov/matchmaking. In addition, the Tennessee Small Business Development
Centers in East Tennessee are scheduling technical assistance workshops during February and early March to provide hands-on assistance to sellers. During the workshops, a trainer will show participants how to register in the appropriate databases and identify their product and services codes. For more information about
the workshops please find the press release included below or contact Teresa Blair at the TSBDC at (423) 439-8505.
The business matchmaking program will provide unique opportunities for small businesses to meet with government agencies and large corporations in a way not
previously possible on such a large-scale basis.
