Latino Book Discussion Group/Grupo Latino de Lectura
The YWCA and the Knox County Public Library are pleased to announce that Knoxville has been selected as one of 117 communities to participate in “The Big Read” program, an initiative of the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA). The Big Read is designed to revitalize the role of literary reading in American popular culture. The goal is two-fold: encourage reluctant readers to experience a literary classic and explore racial and social justice in our community. The classic novel that has been chosen is To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee. There are many activities planned throughout month, including discussion groups, stage productions, lectures and the screening of the movie on Market Square.
The Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of East Tennessee and HoLa-Hora Latina are pleased to announce the formation of a Latino Book Discussion Group lead by Jaime Fernández-Baca. The group will meet at the Cedar Bluff Public Library on November 10 at 2:00 p.m. So, pick up a copy of the book, read it and join us!

La YWCA y la Biblioteca Pública del Condado de Knox están encantados en anunciar que Knoxville ha sido seleccionado como una de 117 comunidades a nivel nacional para participar en el programa de lectura “The Big Read”. Se trata de una iniciativa del Fondo Nacional para la Cultura y las Artes diseñado para impulsar la lectura como una búsqueda cultural y alentar a la gente a leer ciertos libros clásicos y participar en eventos y discusiones. El libro que se ha escogido es Matar un Ruiseñor. Esta clásica novela escrita por Harper Lee no es sólo una excelente obra, sino que también nos desafía a examinar temas como la tolerancia y la justicia.
La Cámara de Comercio Hispana del Este de Tennessee y HoLa-Hora Latina han formado un grupo de lectores latinos, liderado por Jaime Fernández-Baca, para discutir el libro. Así que lee la novela y únete al grupo de lectores el 10 de noviembre a las 2:00 en la Biblioteca Pública de Cedar Bluff. Se han organizado una variedad de actividades relacionadas con este programa de lectura, incluyendo obras teatrales, charlas, el pase de la película en Market Square (al aire libre) y mucho más.
