YWCA honors best of the best
Tribute to Women recognizes top 9 out of 27 finalists
More than 600 people attended the YWCA Knoxville's 24th annual Tribute to Women event Thursday night at the historic Bijou Theatre.
Twenty-seven women from nine East Tennessee counties were recognized as finalists in nine categories.
It is from among those women that the nine honorees were chosen by out-of-state judges.
Loida Velazquez was the award winner in the human service category:
Retired as program director at the University of Tennessee, Velazquez serves on the board of the United Way, the Red Cross and was a founding board member of the Race Relations Center of East Tennessee; she is a Knoxville Museum of Art trustee.
